Bavaria Faces High Wildfire Risk; Ash Ignites Meadow Fire

Following extended dry periods, Bavaria, Germany, faces a high risk of wildfires. Firefighters are on alert, and the public is urged to be extremely cautious, especially with embers that may appear extinguished.

In a striking example of the danger, a man in Mittelfranken inadvertently started a fire by emptying a large container of old ash onto his meadow. The blaze quickly spread across approximately 400 square meters in Wilburgstetten, though no injuries or damage to buildings were reported. The ash was reportedly several days old, and police have initiated proceedings against the property owner.

Similar incidents highlight the pervasive risk. In Neustadt an der Donau, a garden hedge caught fire, damaging adjacent hop gardens. Investigators believe an incompletely cooled fire pit was the cause. In Schwarzhofen, a 67-year-old man's act of burning debris in a nearby container ignited surrounding bushes.

Authorities are issuing stern warnings, advising citizens to take necessary safety precautions when working outdoors. They emphasize the importance of being mindful of open flames and any potential sources of sparks due to the current dry conditions.
