Bavarian Angling Association President Resigns Ahead of Dismissal Vote

Axel Bartelt, the president of the Bavarian State Angling Association, has resigned from his position, effective immediately. His departure comes just before a potential dismissal motion that had been requested by the presidents of the seven district associations for an extraordinary meeting.

Bartelt stated that his resignation was the "last service" he could render to the association. The association's presidium and district delegates unanimously welcomed the decision. The two vice presidents, Willi Ruff and Alfred Stier, will temporarily lead the association. They are tasked with initiating a fundamental reorganization of the association's bodies until a new president is elected at the 2024 members' meeting.

The resignation follows a dispute over Bartelt's leadership. A letter from the district associations in June, obtained by dpa, cited the impossibility of constructive cooperation and accused Bartelt of an "autocratic leadership style" and indecisiveness. The planned reorganization aims to expedite decision-making and adapt to the growing membership and expanded responsibilities with a "modern structure."
