Bayelsa United gets interim board after relegation

Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri has appointed a five-member interim board to oversee Bayelsa United FC for the next six months. This move follows the club's relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the end of the 2025/2026 season.

The dissolution of the previous board occurred two weeks prior, during a State Executive Council meeting in Yenagoa. The appointment of the interim board was officially announced on Thursday by Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpe during the weekly Prosperity Walk at the Samson Siasia Stadium.

The newly formed interim board includes experienced football administrator Dr. Peter Singabele, former Director of Sports Sir Braveman Wodi, Director-General of the Prosperity Cup Ono Akpe, Godson Ekarde, and Ken Ekpolaemi Odogu as secretary. They have a six-month deadline to achieve the club's promotion. The deputy governor urged football stakeholders to support the board in its mission to restore the government-owned club to the top flight.
