Bayern's Musiala Treated for Neurological Dysfunction After Collapses

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala is undergoing treatment for a "neurological dysfunction" after experiencing two collapses during matches within a four-day span. The 23-year-old player suffered the latest incident on Tuesday, collapsing just six minutes after entering Bayern's friendly match against Heidenheim, which the team won 4-2.

I've been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures, which are due to a neurological dysfunction. These can lead to the recent episodes, like the one against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim. I know they seem scary at first glance - but for me, they're currently just part of my everyday life.

Musiala appeared dazed and required medical attention before being helped off the pitch. This event followed a similar collapse during Bayern's 3-1 friendly victory over RB Leipzig on the preceding Saturday. The recurrence of these episodes has understandably caused concern.

Seeking to alleviate fears, Musiala shared a statement on Instagram detailing his diagnosis. He explained that he has been diagnosed with "temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures, which are due to a neurological dysfunction." He acknowledged that these episodes can be frightening but stated they are currently a part of his daily life. Musiala expressed confidence in his medical treatment and remains optimistic about his recovery, emphasizing the strong support he receives from FC Bayern, his family, and friends.

Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, confirmed prior knowledge of the situation before Tuesday's match, stating that Musiala would address the matter himself. Musiala had previously missed the first six months of the last season due to an ankle fracture sustained at the 2025 Club World Cup but returned to play a significant role in the latter half of the campaign and featured in Germany's matches at the 2026 World Cup.
