BCGE posts record first half, gains market share despite competition

The Banque Cantonale de Genève (BCGE) achieved a record first half of 2026, reporting a significant 25% rise in both operating and net profit. The bank attributed its success to continued market share gains in loans and asset management, fueled by a robust Genevan economy, with a notable boost from the real estate sector.

Despite the positive results, BCGE's leadership acknowledged a "volatile, sometimes complicated" economic environment during the first six months of the year. Nicolas Krügel, the bank's CEO since March 2024, noted that businesses utilized their liquidity for investments and to meet strong order recoveries in 2026. He also highlighted a rebound in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
