Beaten lawyer Danko Cvejić: 'I don't know the motive, nor was I in conflict with anyone'

Danko Cvejić, a lawyer, was severely beaten on July 4 in a park in New Belgrade, an incident he says he cannot explain due to a lack of conflict in his life. Cvejić stated that he resolves all matters through dialogue and would have addressed any issues if they had been brought to his attention. He described himself as a well-regarded neighbor actively involved in community improvements, including the park and surrounding buildings.

I am a lawyer and I resolve everything in life with words. If someone had told me there was a problem, I would have asked how to solve it, but I was not in conflict with anyone.

Despite having a large number of clients throughout his career, Cvejić insists he has no disputes with any of them. He claims he did not know his attackers and had no interaction with them immediately before the assault. He also noted that his children were not approached by the assailants, suggesting the attack was premeditated and carried out with the sole intention of inflicting harm, regardless of the consequences.

Cvejić recounted the traumatic experience of his children witnessing the unprovoked assault on their father. He expressed deep fear for his family's safety and profound bewilderment at the attackers' capacity for extreme violence. He emphasized his lifelong peaceful coexistence with his neighbors, making the attack all the more incomprehensible.

I don't know those people who beat me, I had no contact with them... So, it wasn't in the heat of the moment, they just came with the intention to beat me, regardless of the consequences, and I don't know why.

Following the assault, Cvejić was hospitalized with serious injuries, including two skull fractures and facial lacerations. He informed the police that he has never been politically or fan-affiliated, nor can he connect the attack to any aspect of his life. Cvejić reported that he could not clearly see his assailants, as they struck him immediately upon approaching, causing him to fall to the ground bleeding before further blows were administered.

My children watched their father being beaten for no reason, but I am afraid for myself and my family. I cannot understand that it is possible for there to be people who are ready for such a degree of violence, that they beat me to death, and for no reason.
