Beavers transformed a Dorset woodland into flourishing wetland within a year

Beavers released into a Dorset woodland in 2025 have transformed the area into a flourishing wetland within a year.

Their natural dam-building slowed the movement of water and created deep pools. The ecological changes also revived local wildlife and brought various native species back to the Purbeck region.

The dams have helped mitigate flooding on nearby roads during heavy rain, showing how beaver activity can strengthen the area’s natural resilience.
