Belgian diamond group gifts Trump a diamond-encrusted gold ring to thank him for tariff cuts

A lavish gold ring, encrusted with nearly 400 gemstones, has been presented to former U.S. President Donald Trump by the Belgian Diamond Association. The opulent gift, reportedly the size of a watch, features diamonds spelling out "T" and incorporates symbols like the American flag, the years "1776" and "2026," and the number "45" within a superhero emblem. It also includes an eagle with a ruby shield and emerald olive branches, and the inscription "250 YEARS USA" on its 18K gold base.

The ring was handed over to the U.S. Ambassador to Belgium, Bill White, to be presented to Trump. The gesture is seen as a symbolic thank you from the diamond industry, which benefited from tariff reductions initiated by Trump. The Antwerp World Diamond Center (AWDC), representing the centuries-old diamond community of the Belgian port city, stated the ring serves as a reminder that true partnerships, like fine diamonds, are formed under pressure and built on trust.

This elaborate gift comes after the Belgian diamond sector faced difficulties during Trump's trade war. The AWDC stated it provided "input" during negotiations for a broader tariff agreement between the EU Commission and Trump in 2025 but denied lobbying the administration directly. The ring's value is estimated by independent jewelers to be between $25,000 and $35,000, though neither the AWDC nor the jeweler provided an official valuation. The White House has not formally received the ring, according to a U.S. official.
