Belgian Prime Minister to Meet Narendra Modi in India

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever is set to embark on a significant two-day visit to India next week, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties. The trip, scheduled for September 3 and 4, will include a high-profile meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This visit is historically notable, as it will be the first time a Belgian Prime Minister has been received by their Indian counterpart since 2006, during Guy Verhofstadt's premiership. The meeting with Modi is expected to last three hours and is anticipated to culminate in the signing of several principle agreements, followed by a joint press conference.

Beyond the official talks, De Wever is also scheduled to address a gathering of Indian industrialists. He will be accompanied by the Minister of Defense and Foreign Trade, Theo Francken, who is returning from a trip to Japan. The itinerary also includes a visit to the Mumbai diamond bourse, a sector of significant economic importance.

During his time in the Indian metropolis, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the new offices of HRD Antwerp, a diamond industry organization. The visit will conclude with an event organized by the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, underscoring the economic and trade dimensions of the Belgian delegation's mission.
