Belgrade activists repair potholes after authorities fail to act

The Kreni-Promeni movement has taken matters into its own hands, starting to repair potholes on Belgrade's streets after authorities failed to address citizen complaints. The activists have temporarily filled several potholes that were severely hindering traffic flow.

Savo Manojlović, president of Kreni-Promeni, stated that the decision to act came after the relevant institutions did not respond to reports submitted via the 'Report-Resolve' platform. "Since the responsible institutions have not reacted to the reports we forwarded to them, we decided to patch up six or seven potholes ourselves on a stretch of just thirty meters that are preventing normal traffic flow," Manojlović said.

He stressed that Kreni-Promeni activists cannot and should not take over the work of official city services, especially when direct intervention could compromise safety. "We have temporarily repaired this street. It is necessary for the responsible services to come and do the job professionally," he added. Manojlović noted that they cannot address all 100 reported locations due to safety concerns, particularly where underground collapse might occur, making further asphalt application risky.

The movement encourages citizens to continue reporting problems in their neighborhoods using the 'Report-Resolve' platform, assuring them that they will address issues across Serbia regardless of political affiliation. Aco Jovanović, a councilor for Kreni-Promeni, reiterated that the repairs are temporary, using materials that will not last long, and that professional work by city institutions is essential for the citizens of Belgrade.
