Belgrade Celebrates African Culture at MAU Afro Festival

Belgrade is set to come alive with the MAU Afro festival, a unique two-day event dedicated to celebrating African culture and art. Scheduled for June 20 and 21 at the Museum of African Art, the festival promises a rich and diverse program for visitors of all ages. This annual event, now in its third decade, aims to foster cultural exchange and appreciation by showcasing various facets of African heritage.

The museum grounds will be transformed into a lively "Durbar – festival of festivals," an immersive space filled with the colors, sounds, and aromas of the African continent. Attendees can explore stalls offering authentic tastes, handicrafts, and art objects from different regions of Africa. The air will be filled with the scents of spices and coffee, the rhythm of drums, and an energetic atmosphere designed to bridge the gap between performers and the audience.

Beyond the sensory experiences, the festival will offer a blend of interactive and educational activities. Visitors can participate in art and creative workshops, learn to tie traditional African turbans, contribute to a mural painting, and play the mancala board game. Guided tours of the museum's permanent collection and the current exhibition, "Reci: Art – Waste as Resource," will also be available. The musical centerpiece of the festival will be a performance by Les Amazones d'Afrique, a renowned pan-African female band known for their fusion of West African traditions with contemporary sounds, delivering powerful messages of freedom and empowerment.
