Belgrade detains two suspects for severe assault on minor

Belgrade prosecutors have ordered a 48-hour detention for two suspects, identified as M.K. and V.S., both born in 2005, in connection with severe bodily harm inflicted upon a minor. The First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade announced that M.K. is accused of two counts of aggravated assault, with V.S. allegedly acting as an accomplice in one of the incidents.

The charges stem from an alleged assault on a minor, identified as P.V. (born 2010), on Republic Square in Belgrade around 10:30 p.m. on July 8, 2026. Additionally, M.K. faces a separate charge for allegedly striking a Ukrainian national, L.I. (born 2004), in the head on Republic Square on July 14, 2025. The victim reportedly fell, hit his head on a step, and lost consciousness.

Both suspects were questioned regarding the charges and presented their defenses. Following these interrogations, prosecutors submitted a motion to the First Basic Court in Belgrade to impose pre-trial detention. The prosecution argued that there are grounds to believe the suspects might obstruct the ongoing criminal proceedings by influencing witnesses or that they could commit similar offenses again in a short period.

The legal proceedings are ongoing as authorities investigate the alleged assaults. The detention aims to ensure the integrity of the investigation and prevent further potential harm.
