Belgrade Official Accuses Opposition of Exploiting Pharmacy Crisis for Political Gain

Aleksandar Mirković, head of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) group in the Belgrade City Assembly, has accused opposition councilors of misusing and manipulating people from the Belgrade Pharmacy. Mirković claims they exploited the situation for personal promotion and to score cheap political points. He described the Belgrade Pharmacy as a recurring, "burning issue" in assembly sessions, serving more as a stage for political rivalry than a forum for addressing the actual problems faced by the institution's employees. Mirković highlighted that opposition councilors had requested an assembly session in December to discuss the Belgrade Pharmacy and the General Staff, but failed to gather enough signatures. He further stated that when the session was scheduled, only 27 out of 46 opposition councilors appeared. "People from Belgrade Pharmacy consider you fraudsters because you used their issue and difficult situation as a polygon for collecting cheap political points, offered them theatrical support, beat your chests, and then when you had to appear at the session you requested, you didn't even show up," Mirković told the opposition councilors. He urged them to ask Belgrade Pharmacy employees how much the city and republic authorities have helped them and how much has been paid for their health insurance cards to be validated until June this year. Mirković assured that the issue of the Belgrade Pharmacy will be resolved soon. He also mentioned that this is the last assembly session before the "historic campaign for the future of Belgrade and all of Serbia" begins, advising SNS councilors to focus on the government's results during the election campaign and avoid falling for the opposition's provocations and lies.
