Belgrade's 'Staklenac' market to be dismantled by year-end for metro station

The "Staklenac" market in central Belgrade is slated for demolition by the end of the year. This temporary structure will be replaced by a metro station, marking a significant step in the development of the city's independent rail system.

City manager Miroslav Čučković announced that the tunnel boring machines for the metro's first line are on their way to Serbia. He stated that "every day is precious" in this ongoing project. Čučković also confirmed that more than half of the local business owners have been compensated according to the law. He emphasized that the city is working individually with each owner to help them establish new businesses after they vacate their current premises.

"Staklenac" has been a temporary facility, and its owners' attempts to legalize it in previous years were unsuccessful. The demolition and subsequent construction are part of Belgrade's ambitious plan to modernize its public transportation infrastructure.
