Beloved children's book illustrator Ülle Meister's graphics to be exhibited at Estonian Art Museum

The Estonian Art Museum is set to receive a significant collection of works by the celebrated children's book illustrator Ülle Meister. Her heirs have gifted the museum 64 pieces, comprising 18 watercolors, 4 drawings, and 42 graphic sheets. This generous donation marks what would have been the artist's 78th birthday on August 27.

Ülle Meister (1948–2021) is a household name in Estonia, recognized for her illustrations in countless beloved children's books. Her art has captured the hearts of generations of Estonian children over the past fifty years. She collaborated with many prominent children's writers and poets, including Leelo Tungal, Heljo Mänd, and Kuulo Kutsar, contributing to a rich literary heritage.

While the new additions will enrich the Estonian Art Museum's collection, a substantial portion of the original artwork for Meister's book illustrations has been housed at the Estonian Children's Literature Centre since 2023. This ensures that her legacy continues to be accessible and appreciated by young readers and art enthusiasts alike.
