Benue Assembly suspends LG chairman for three months over misconduct allegations

The Benue State House of Assembly has recommended the suspension of Mr. Vitalis Neji, the Chairman of the Kwande Local Government Area. The lawmakers voted for a three-month suspension, citing "allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office" as the basis for their decision.

This recommendation stems from a report submitted by an ad hoc committee, which was tasked by the House to investigate the allegations against the council chairman. During the committee's proceedings, Mr. Neji appeared but reportedly failed to provide satisfactory defenses against the accusations leveled against him.

Neji appeared before the committee but was unable to satisfactorily defend himself against the allegations levelled against him.

Following the presentation and subsequent debate on the committee's findings, the Assembly members unanimously called upon the Speaker, Mr. Alfred Emberga, to rule on the recommendation. Speaker Emberga then announced the immediate suspension of Mr. Neji, stating it would be in effect pending the outcome of further investigations into the allegations.
