Benue PDP gov candidate picks 38-year-old as running mate

Michael Aondoakaa, the Peoples Democratic Party's governorship candidate in Nigeria's Benue State, has selected Oyije Ogbenjuwa, a 38-year-old, as his running mate for the upcoming 2027 elections. Aondoakaa, a former minister of justice and attorney general, unveiled his choice at a state congress in Makurdi, emphasizing the nomination as a signal of the party's commitment to youth engagement.

"To the youth of Benue, I hear your voices and understand your aspirations. You are not the leaders of tomorrow alone; you are critical partners today," Aondoakaa stated, aiming to connect with younger voters. He also pledged that his immediate priority, if elected, would be to address the persistent attacks and bloodshed plaguing Benue communities.

The candidate outlined a campaign strategy focused on issues, ideas, and solutions, rather than division or animosity. He called for internal party cohesion, urging members to work together as a united front. Aondoakaa also sought the support of women, elders, religious leaders, and traditional rulers as the campaign gears up for the 2027 polls.
