Berlin Confirms Multimillion-Euro Ransom Demand After Cyberattack

The hackers gave Berlin until Friday to pay roughly €2 million. After days of attacks on the German capital’s administrative data network, the professional hacking group Rhysida is demanding a ransom from the state of Berlin.

A spokeswoman for Berlin’s Senate administration confirmed the demand on Tuesday. She also said the group had publicly claimed responsibility for the attack and asserted that it possessed 5.7 terabytes of stolen data.

The stolen information from the capital’s administration is being offered for sale on the dark web. Berlin’s mayor has said the city will not allow itself to be blackmailed.
