Berlin Pride Attack Suspect Dies in Police Operation

Berlin is reeling after a terrorist attack during the city's Pride parade left one person dead and 29 injured. The suspected perpetrator, 21-year-old Abdul Ballout, died during a significant police operation in the Spandau district on Sunday, according to German media reports.

Authorities have classified the vehicle ramming attack, which occurred Saturday evening, as an "Islamist terrorist attack." Ballout was known to police for his connections to Islamist circles and had been on the run. Investigators released his photo and description: a man around 1.90 meters tall with a goatee, who was reportedly wearing a black hoodie and white pants at the time of the attack.

Further details revealed that Ballout was released from a juvenile detention center in May. German newspaper BILD reported that he has a prior record for serious assault and violent extortion. Crucially, Ballout was allegedly an ISIS supporter and had reportedly attempted to join the terrorist organization in Syria in 2025 before being apprehended in Lebanon. He was subsequently extradited to Germany, where he was convicted in 2026 for "preparing a serious act of violence endangering state security."
