Bernardo Silva signs two-year deal with Real Madrid

Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva has officially signed a two-year deal with Spanish giants Real Madrid, the club announced Wednesday. The contract will keep the 31-year-old playmaker at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2028.

Silva's move to Madrid marks the end of a trophy-laden nine-year tenure at Manchester City, where he arrived from Monaco in 2017. During his time with the English club, Silva made 459 appearances, scored 76 goals, and won 15 major trophies. These include four consecutive Premier League titles from 2021 to 2024, the historic treble in 2023 featuring the Champions League, and all four domestic trophies in the 2018/19 season.

The signing comes shortly after Real Madrid's re-elected president, Florentino Pérez, appointed Jose Mourinho as the new coach in early June, following two seasons without major silverware. This move signals a significant reinforcement for the midfield as Madrid aims to reclaim domestic and European dominance.

Madrid has been active in the transfer market, recently securing Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea for a reported €55 million ($63.8 million). The club is also rumored to be close to signing Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté upon the expiration of his contract and has shown interest in Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries, further bolstering their squad for the upcoming seasons.
