Besiktas Signs Juventus Striker Vlahovic; Oh Hyun-gyu Faces New Competition

Turkish football club Besiktas has secured a major signing, bringing Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic to the Süper Lig on a three-year deal. The club announced the transfer on its website, just one day after Vlahovic arrived in Istanbul to complete his medical examinations and finalize the agreement.

Reports indicate that Besiktas will pay Vlahovic a base salary of 8 million euros (approximately 13.1 billion won), with potential bonuses bringing his total earnings to 10 million euros (around 16.3 billion won) per season. Vlahovic joined Juventus in 2022 after spells with Partizan in Serbia and Fiorentina in Italy. During his time with Juventus, he played 168 official matches, scoring 68 goals and providing 16 assists. He has also represented Serbia internationally, scoring 16 goals in 41 matches.

However, Vlahovic's recent season was hampered by surgery for an adductor muscle injury, causing him to miss the first half of the campaign. Juventus had pursued a contract extension with Vlahovic, but negotiations stalled over salary reductions. Ultimately, Vlahovic opted to leave the club upon the expiration of his contract and will now play in Turkey.

This high-profile transfer presents a significant obstacle for Korean national team striker Oh Hyun-gyu, who joined Besiktas in February last year. Oh had a strong performance in the latter half of the season, scoring 8 goals and providing 4 assists in 16 league and cup matches. He is now expected to compete with Vlahovic for the lone striker role under new head coach Vincenzo Italiano, who favors a 4-2-3-1 formation. Besiktas begins its 2026-2027 league campaign on August 17th.
