Bestselling Novel 'The Rapid' Adapted into Webtoon, Secures International Rights

Jung Dae-geon's acclaimed novel, 'The Rapid,' is set to reach a new audience with its adaptation into a webtoon. The book, celebrated for its "reverse-run" success in the South Korean market, has garnered significant attention beyond its initial release.

Publisher Minumsa announced on August 5th that it has signed a webtoon production contract with content creation company CNC Revolution. In addition to the webtoon, separate rights for a video adaptation have also been secured. A Minumsa representative expressed optimism about the expansion, stating, "Readers' demand to enjoy stories on various platforms beyond text is growing. We expect to meet a wider audience through new formats while maintaining the original work's sentiment."

'The Rapid' has achieved impressive sales, with approximately 400,000 copies sold. Its popularity has also extended internationally, with the recent sale of rights to Spanish publisher Urano, marking the third overseas deal after Taiwan and Japan. The novel is slated for publication through Urano's affiliate, Puck. The story itself, set in a small provincial town, chronicles the meeting and romance between seventeen-year-old protagonists Do-dam and Hae-sol. Since its release in December 2022, it has gained traction through reader recommendations on social media, solidifying its status as a word-of-mouth bestseller.
