Bethell ruled out of The Hundred with knee injury

England all-rounder Jacob Bethell has been ruled out of The Hundred cricket competition due to a knee injury. The injury occurred during the recent one-day international series against India. Bethell, who was named captain for the Birmingham Phoenix team, will be replaced by South African player Donovan Ferreira.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed Bethell underwent an MRI scan on Monday but has not provided a timeline for his return. This absence is a significant blow for the 22-year-old, who is viewed as a future leader for England. He had previously captained the side in a T20 series against Ireland last year.

Bethell had been in strong form, including a player of the match performance in the series decider against India where he scored 91 runs and took one wicket. Ferreira, a two-time Hundred champion with Oval Invincibles, will now skipper the Phoenix. The team's opening match is scheduled for Friday against Trent Rockets at Edgbaston.
