Between Near-Death and Euphoria: Fintech Startup Ellexx Fights Off Rumors of Collapse

Ellexx, a fintech startup aiming to empower women financially, is navigating a challenging period marked by "near-death and euphoria," according to CEO Patrizia Laeri. The company, which seeks to close financial gaps for women and capitalize on the estimated $60 trillion in global female wealth, has yet to achieve significant profitability.

Despite its mission to promote financial equality and independence, Ellexx generated only 500,000 Swiss francs in revenue last year. By the end of 2025, its cumulative balance sheet loss stood at 4.3 million francs, a figure reported by "Inside Paradeplatz," which questioned the company's future. The publication had previously faced a court ruling for sexist reporting after referring to Laeri as a "Page 3 girl."

Laeri acknowledges the company's debt but argues that many fintechs struggle with profitability in their early years, with a high failure rate within five years. She expressed pride in Ellexx's continued market presence. The CEO attributes the losses to substantial investments in IT infrastructure, particularly the company's app, suggesting that these costs should now decrease.

Ellexx positions itself as a target of a sustained negative campaign by "Inside Paradeplatz." Laeri maintains that profitability is "within sight" and that the company differentiates itself from other fintechs by generating revenue. She emphasized that female investors have different priorities, valuing sustainability and social aspects, which Ellexx aims to address more effectively than traditional banks.
