Beyoncé sells a wooden box to fans for more than $900

Beyoncé’s latest fan product is a wooden box priced at $948.01. The “Bee Keeper Collector’s Box” is intended to store vinyl records, but its price has prompted as much attention as its design.

The limited-edition box draws inspiration from traditional beekeeping boxes. It has green velvet inside, beeswax oil on the exterior, gold-colored metal fittings and a faux-alligator-leather strap. The product is part of merchandise marking Beyoncé’s 45th birthday and the anniversary of her second album, released 20 years ago. The collection also includes revised vinyl editions of “B’Day.”

The price may refer to Beyoncé’s birth date, Sept. 4, 1981. A promotional video presents the box with slow motion, soft sunlight and an appeal to the nostalgic value of objects from an earlier era. The sales website describes it more plainly as a wooden box.

The response from fans has been divided. Some social-media users called the offer excessive and joked about the cost. One wrote, “You are a billionaire, not us.” Another commented, “There had better be tour tickets in the damn box.” Other fans appeared unconcerned, posting messages such as “Happy Birthday, we love you.”

Beyoncé has long made money beyond music through products including whisky, perfume and training clothes. Whether affection for the singer can support a price of nearly $1,000 for an oak box remains open. The collector’s item can still be preordered from Germany alongside the wider birthday collection.
