Tofik Dibi, the faction leader for Amsterdam's BIJ1 party, has resurfaced after a period of being reportedly out of reach. His disappearance was linked to an official bailiff's notice published last month, indicating alleged debts to housing corporation Vesteda and potential seizure of assets like wages or benefits. While the first name on the notice differed slightly, the birth date matched Dibi's, and the document stated no known address within or outside the Netherlands, a condition for public disclosure.

As an Amsterdam council member, Dibi is legally required to reside in the city. His unresponsiveness to messages fueled reports of him being "unfindable." Dibi eventually issued a statement, shared on BIJ1's national channels, lamenting the leak of "private information." He criticized the "intimidating communication" of bailiffs, likening their methods to the "mafia" after decades of increased pressure. Dibi also drew parallels between his own struggles and those of the people he entered politics to represent, referencing debt, homelessness, unemployment, and discrimination.

The national board of BIJ1 has publicly backed Dibi, expressing gratitude for his "openness" and "dedication." Dibi, a former Member of Parliament for GroenLinks and an advisor for the Amsterdam municipality, had previously faced criticism for publicly commenting on national asylum and Israel policies while in public service. He became involved with BIJ1 after leaving his municipal role.
