Bill Gates foundation met with Jeffrey Epstein about 30 times, external review finds

An external review commissioned by the Gates Foundation has revealed approximately 30 meetings between Jeffrey Epstein and foundation leaders, including Bill Gates, occurred between 2011 and 2014. This took place even as foundation staff repeatedly flagged the risks associated with associating with Epstein, citing his past conviction. The review was initiated in March after the justice department released documents linking Epstein to Gates. These files prompted renewed scrutiny of Gates's past relationship with the disgraced financier. The foundation had previously acknowledged awareness of emails between Epstein and foundation staff, expressing regret for any employee interactions with Epstein. The law firm WilmerHale conducted the five-month review, interviewing over 50 current and former foundation personnel and examining relevant documents. The review's summary stated that no evidence was found of the foundation's participation in or knowledge of Epstein's sex trafficking operations. It also found no indication that Epstein used the foundation's name to advance his criminal activities or that he received payment from the foundation. Bill Gates, who denies any wrongdoing and has expressed regret over his association with Epstein, testified to Congress that he never witnessed or had any indication of Epstein's criminal conduct. Gates stated he was introduced to Epstein in 2011 by trusted contacts, who suggested Epstein could raise significant funds for global health initiatives. He acknowledged being aware of Epstein's prior legal issues but not the full extent of his crimes, admitting he did not apply sufficient scrutiny.
