Bishkek Contractors Fined for Damaging Tree Roots

Contractors in Bishkek have been held accountable and fined for damaging the root systems of trees while installing underground cables. Member of Parliament Dastan Bekeshev reported that the contractors were eventually brought to justice after his intervention.

Bekeshev had previously contacted the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision to investigate reports of tree root damage during the laying of internet and street lighting cables. Initially, the ministry stated that no violations were found.

However, Bekeshev submitted a second request, demanding an inspection report. Following an additional review, the ministry confirmed that the tree roots had indeed been damaged. Consequently, administrative fines were imposed on the contracting organizations.

"When I requested the inspection report, a real check was carried out. It turned out that the tree roots were indeed damaged, and the contractors were fined," Bekeshev stated. He also noted the recent enactment of the Law on Climate Action, which incorporates his proposals. This law aims to promote urban greening, combat extreme heat, and strengthen parliamentary oversight of climate policy implementation.
