Bishkek Mayor Criticizes Delays in TSUM Area Reconstruction

Bishkek Mayor Aybek Dzhunushaliev has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the slow pace of reconstruction and landscaping work near the TSUM department store. During an inspection, he noted that the demolition of a building slated for removal has been significantly delayed, and the investor has not yet fulfilled their commitments.

The mayor has mandated the land use control department to set a two-week deadline for completing the demolition. He also instructed the investor to mobilize additional resources to accelerate the work and finish the landscaping promptly. Furthermore, the mayor urged that adjacent commercial properties be brought into a unified architectural style and that the legal status of structures lacking proper documentation be resolved.

LAVR Development presented its project for the public space between TSUM and Abdrakhmanov Street. The plan involves restoring the original historic fountain with modern enhancements, establishing a comfortable pedestrian zone, installing benches, and planting six willow trees. The existing structures, except for an atrium with escalators leading to an underpass, are to be demolished, creating an open public area.

The company also unveiled a concept for further development along Shopokov Street, including a multi-level parking garage with underground access to separate vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The plan also features an "Alley of Glory" with decorative light structures bearing the names of famous individuals instead of traditional lampposts.
