Bledisloe Cup quadruple-header announced as sevens teams join Sydney bill

Sydney’s Bledisloe Cup day will now feature four international rugby matches, with Australia’s women’s and men’s sevens teams joining the Wallabies and Wallaroos on the program.

The Wallaroos will open the day against Scotland in a WXV Global Series match. Australia’s women’s sevens team will then face New Zealand, followed by the men’s sevens side against Fiji. The Wallabies will finish the schedule against the All Blacks in the late afternoon.

Rugby Australia chief executive Phil Waugh called the expanded program “an historic moment for Australian rugby, with all four of our Teams In Gold competing on the same pitch, on the same day, on an unmissable occasion.” He said the event would bring together Australia’s leading men’s and women’s players across the XVs and sevens formats.

The matches will be held at Stadium Australia on Oct. 18, at the venue set to host next year’s World Cup final. Rugby Australia thanked New Zealand Rugby, the Fiji Rugby Union and Scottish Rugby for helping arrange the schedule.
