Blistering Marsh knock helps Sunrisers smash Hundred's record score

A brutal 76 off just 37 balls by Mitch Marsh propelled Leeds Sunrisers to a record-breaking 2-241 in The Hundred cricket competition at Headingley. Marsh's explosive innings, featuring seven sixes, set the stage for the highest score in the tournament's six-year history, surpassing the previous record by 15 runs.

Marsh and Ryan Rickelton formed a formidable partnership, amassing 148 runs from 65 balls, a record for any wicket in the competition. Marsh expressed his routine approach to game days, aiming to stay relaxed and build partnerships. He also shared his fondness for batting at Headingley, where he previously scored an Ashes century.

I'm very routine on game day, trying to stay relaxed, which I am not, but once I get started I try and get into the game and build partnerships. Partnerships are very important to us.

Following Marsh's dismissal, the onslaught continued with South African Rickelton smashing an unbeaten 94 off 42 balls. Local hero Harry Brook also contributed a rapid 55 off 18 deliveries, showcasing astonishing shots. Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa bore the brunt of the punishment, conceding 33 runs from his 10 balls.

London Spirit struggled to keep pace, losing key wickets early, including Jonny Bairstow for a second-ball duck. Despite a valiant 83 not out from David Willey, they finished their 100 balls at 6-204, falling short of the Sunrisers' imposing total. Nathan Ellis took two wickets for the Sunrisers, including the crucial dismissal of Liam Livingstone.
