BNP-led govt is 'fraudulent,' betrayed people: NCP

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has labeled the current BNP-led government as "fraudulent," accusing it of betraying the people by not fulfilling the outcome of a referendum. Nahid Islam, the party's convener and opposition chief whip, voiced these criticisms at a rally organized by the NCP's Dhaka South unit.

We can call this a fraudulent government and one that has breached the people’s trust.

Islam asserted that the people would not accept a visit to India by Tarique Rahman unless New Delhi holds accountable those responsible for sheltering Sheikh Hasina and allowing her to speak from there. He further warned that the NCP would not allow the government to remain in power if it failed to implement the roadmap approved through the referendum. The party also threatened to launch a movement if the government does not address the ongoing gas and electricity crisis and reduce energy prices.

NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain echoed these sentiments, calling any visit by Tarique Rahman to India before accountability for the July Uprising killings a "betrayal of the people." He stated that individuals responsible for the killings during the uprising are allegedly being sheltered in India, where they continue to give interviews and post videos online. Bhuyain demanded that India hand over those responsible, including those accused of killing Osman Hadi, before any relations with India are considered.

Bhuyain also addressed statements from Awami League leaders about returning to Bangladesh, stating that the NCP also wants them to return to face trial. He claimed that the families of martyrs and mothers are praying for justice for those responsible for their children's deaths. Bhuyain added that if Sheikh Hasina returns, the NCP is prepared to ensure justice. Regarding the presidential election, Asif accused the BNP of disregarding the July Charter.
