BNPB Deploys Helicopter to Mobilize and Evacuate Victims of NTT Earthquake

Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has deployed a helicopter to bolster relief operations in the earthquake-stricken East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province. The aircraft will be crucial for mobilizing essential logistics and facilitating the evacuation of victims in the aftermath of a powerful magnitude 7 earthquake.

BNPB Chief Lt. Gen. Suharyanto and Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Pratikno are en route to the affected area in Nagekeo Regency. The helicopter's deployment is particularly vital given NTT's archipelagic nature, which presents significant challenges for inter-island transportation and access during emergencies, according to BNPB's Head of Disaster Data, Information, and Communication, Berton SP Panjaitan.

As of 8:00 AM Western Indonesian Time, the earthquake has resulted in one confirmed fatality and four injuries. The deceased was a resident of Sikka Regency, while the injured are from Sikka and Nagekeo. BNPB has apologized for an initial, unverified report of two deaths, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring all information is verified.

Beyond casualties, the earthquake prompted approximately 2,000 residents in Nagekeo Regency to evacuate voluntarily, with tsunami early warnings issued. In Bima City, one family comprising six individuals was affected. Preliminary damage assessments indicate two houses severely damaged, one moderately, and two lightly. Additionally, one warehouse, six public facilities, and six government offices sustained minor damage. These figures remain preliminary and are subject to ongoing verification.
