Boats did not notice each other before fatal collision, investigation finds

The Swedish Accident Investigation Authority has determined that the cargo ship Misje Verde had the two recreational boats on its radar system prior to the fatal collision that occurred off Tjörn on July 28. The authority's update indicates that neither the individuals on the ship nor those on the recreational boats perceived each other's presence, which ultimately prevented them from avoiding the collision.

"A key task for the investigation is to answer the question of why they did not notice each other," the authority stated on its website. The investigation is focused on understanding the failure of detection between the vessels. The authority estimates that the full investigation will take between ten and twelve months to complete.

The collision resulted in the deaths of a mother and her daughter. Details surrounding the circumstances of the accident, including the specific actions or inactions of those involved and the environmental conditions at the time, are under scrutiny as part of the ongoing inquiry.
