Bode George vows to stay with PDP amid internal crisis

Despite the ongoing internal turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), elder statesman Chief Olabode George has firmly declared his unwavering loyalty to the party. George, a former Deputy National Chairman, vowed never to abandon the PDP, asserting that it remains the bedrock of Nigeria's democracy. He addressed journalists at his Ikoyi residence, using the occasion to also comment on the political landscape and the role of the judiciary.

George specifically refuted claims made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that Wike's faction had seized control of the PDP's structure in Lagos. Describing Wike's assertion as "daydreaming," George, a "trained general," likened political maneuvering to tactical warfare, suggesting that such a takeover was not a realistic possibility. He also alluded to the political situation in Oyo state, implying that certain actions were being played out in a manner he did not approve of.

In a statement titled, 'The Imperative of Preserving the Sanctity, Independence and Integrity of the Nigerian Judiciary,' George penned an open letter to the chairman of the National Judicial Council. He urged the judiciary to courageously fulfill its constitutional mandate concerning the pending PDP cases. George believes that the current political challenges would not have occurred under a PDP administration, highlighting his conviction in the party's foundational principles.

He expressed disappointment that Governor 'Seyi Makinde did not consult him about his presidential ambitions. He concluded by reiterating his commitment to the PDP, stating, "I will not wait and see the party being denigrated because the Board of Trust is the conscience of our party. We must not allow the party to die. Until I die, I will tell the truth to power."
