Bodies spotted at site where five climbers went missing last year

Nepali rescue workers have sighted five bodies at the location where five climbers went missing last year, officials reported on Saturday. The group, comprising three foreign nationals, an Italian Canadian, an Italian, and a German, along with two Nepali climbers, vanished in November following an avalanche on Yalung Ri mountain in the Dolakha district.

This discovery comes nearly a year after the climbers were last seen. The mountain, which stands at 5,630 meters (18,470 feet) and borders China's Tibet region, has been the site of previous tragedies. Two other climbers, an Italian and a French national, had died at the mountain's base camp last year.

We are trying to reach the site where the bodies were seen but are stuck here due to bad weather.

Thabindra Kumar Kafle of the Gaurishankar Rural Municipality, where Yalung Ri is situated, confirmed that workers searching for the missing individuals spotted the bodies on Friday. However, efforts to retrieve them are currently stalled due to adverse weather conditions. Phurba Tenjing Sherpa of the Dreamers' Destination hiking company, which was guiding the foreign climbers, stated that they are attempting to reach the site but are grounded by the weather.

Sherpa suggested that the bodies may have become visible after the snow melted. It remains unconfirmed whether these are indeed the same climbers who disappeared last year. The Yalung Ri mountain is located in Nepal's northeastern Rolwaling Valley, known for its challenging routes involving rock, ice, and snow.
