Body Believed to be Missing 70-Year-Old Woman Found Near Hangang River

Authorities are working to identify a body discovered on the banks of the Hangang River in Guri, which is believed to be that of a 70-year-old woman who went missing from Namyangju last month. The discovery was made around 12:50 p.m. on August 20 by a scent-tracking dog deployed by the Gyeonggi Bukbu Provincial Police Agency's Scientific Investigation Unit.

The woman was last seen leaving her home in Dasan-dong, Namyangju, on July 15. Investigations confirmed she had traveled to the Wangsukcheon stream area near Topyeong Bridge in Guri. Police and fire departments had been searching the Wangsukcheon and Hangang riverbanks, considering the possibility that she may have fallen into the swollen waters due to heavy rains and been carried downstream.

Based on her clothing and other factors, police suspect the body belongs to the missing woman. To confirm her identity, a DNA analysis has been requested from the National Forensic Service. If confirmed, the body will be released to her family.
