Body of eighth victim found after Viacha tragedy

Rescuers found another body among the ruins of the Bolívar barracks in Viacha, bringing the confirmed death toll from Friday’s explosions to eight. Six people still reported missing have yet to be found.

Fernando Rojas, the regional police commander in El Alto, said the family had been officially informed about the discovery of the eighth victim.

Two explosions struck the Bolívar regiment on Friday afternoon. The blasts injured 84 people and damaged several nearby homes. President Rodrigo Paz visited the scene on Monday morning and announced that the country would declare national mourning.

Paz expressed solidarity with the affected families and promised assistance. He said the armed forces were following insurance and administrative procedures intended to provide financial support and other backing to the families, while acknowledging that the process should move faster.
