Body of man killed in collision with Saskatchewan Roughrider to be returned to India

An online fundraiser has surpassed its goal, collecting around $80,000 to help repatriate the body of Bhishma Rajyaguru, a 22-year-old international student from India who died in a tragic car crash. The collision also claimed the life of Saskatchewan Roughrider linebacker Jayden Dalke.

Rajyaguru, who came to Canada in 2022 from Gujarat, was living in Regina. He died at the scene of the crash near Lumsden, northwest of Regina, on Saturday night. The fundraiser, organized by his friend Tonish Patel, aims to cover repatriation costs and support Rajyaguru's parents in India as they grieve their son's loss.

According to RCMP, both men were driving SUVs. Dalke was reportedly on the wrong side of the divided highway before the collision. Investigators found alcohol and cannabis in Dalke's vehicle. Additionally, a gas station in Lumsden reported that Dalke's SUV had left with unpaid fuel about 30 minutes before the crash. Autopsies and toxicology tests are pending.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe expressed his condolences, stating, "We mourn the loss of 22 year-old Bhishma Rajyaguru, whose life was taken far too soon." The Saskatchewan Roughriders plan to hold a tribute for Dalke, who helped the team win the Grey Cup in 2025, before their next home game. Rajyaguru's body cannot be transported to India until the official investigations are complete.
