Body of Netflix Mountaineer Nirmal Purja Found on Pakistan Peak

The body of celebrated mountaineer Nirmal Purja has been found on Broad Peak in Pakistan's Karakoram range, following a devastating avalanche that claimed the lives of him and nine other climbers. Purja, who gained international fame for his record-breaking ascent of all 14 eight-thousander mountains in a single season, documented in a Netflix series, was on an expedition when the tragedy struck.

Niala Kiani, spokesperson for the Alpine Club Pakistan, confirmed that Purja's body was located at an altitude of around 5,700 meters. The recovery operation aims to bring his remains to a Japanese base camp. The avalanche swept through the entire team, which comprised climbers from Nepal, Pakistan, China, the United States, and Oman.

While three bodies have already been successfully recovered, the remains of four individuals, including Purja, have been located but remain on the mountain. Kiani described the conditions for retrieval on the world's twelfth-highest peak as "very difficult," posing significant challenges for the rescue teams. The recovery efforts are ongoing amidst these hazardous circumstances.
