Boko Haram releases obituary for cameraman killed in attack

Boko Haram has issued an obituary for Abu Salim al-Barnawi, one of its videographers and cameramen, who was killed by Nigerian troops during an attempted raid on a military camp. The obituary, presented in a three-minute video narrated in Arabic, features al-Barnawi operating a camera and participating in various operations conducted by the terrorist group.

Captain Muhammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer for the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed that al-Barnawi was killed last week when the terrorist group attacked a Nigerian military camp. Goni stated that al-Barnawi had previously led raids into Cameroon before joining Boko Haram's media wing.

The video and accompanying text identify al-Barnawi as a "raid commander and videographer." The Nigerian Army's operation that led to his death followed a failed infiltration attempt by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists into Cross Kauwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State. The terrorists reportedly attempted to use the cover of darkness to breach the troops' position and steal cholera medical supplies.

During the operation, troops recovered a Sony camcorder, various rounds of PKT and 7.62mm Special ammunition, terrorist uniforms, and other combat items.
