Bolívar secured a crucial 1-1 draw against São Paulo in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana round of 16 tie, held at the high-altitude Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz. The result leaves the tie delicately poised ahead of the return fixture in Brazil.

São Paulo took the lead in the 23rd minute through a header from Robert Arboleda, who converted a corner kick. Despite dominating possession in the first half, Bolívar struggled to break down the Brazilian defense. The equalizer for the home side came in the 63rd minute when Carlos Melgar found the back of the net after a series of blocked attempts.

Bolívar pushed for a late winner, with Melgar coming close to scoring his second goal in stoppage time, only for his shot to hit the crossbar. The match saw only two yellow cards issued, both to São Paulo players Iago and Aurélio Buta.
