Bolivia, Brazil to launch 'Secure Borders' plan in Beni

Bolivia and Brazil are set to officially launch the "Fronteras Seguras" (Secure Borders) plan this Thursday, August 13, from Guayaramerín in the Beni department. An advance team arrived in Guayaramerín on Tuesday to finalize preparations for the initiative, which aims to bolster security and state presence along the shared border.

The binational strategy is designed to reinforce security in critical border areas and combat criminal organizations, particularly those involved in drug trafficking. The official launch ceremony is expected to be attended by Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz, Brazil's Minister of Security and Justice Wellington Lima e Silva, and the commander of Brazil's National Police.

In Bolivia, the "Fronteras Seguras" plan will be implemented across the departments of Pando, Beni, and Santa Cruz. This initiative represents a significant step in bilateral cooperation between the Brazilian Federal Police and the Bolivian Police. The plan involves establishing permanent operations at various border points to disrupt and dismantle what officials describe as a "worrying wave of crimes" affecting regions like Santa Cruz, Guayaramerín, and Cobija.

Officials have acknowledged recent serious incidents in these border areas, underscoring the urgency and importance of this joint security effort. The "Fronteras Seguras" plan is expected to enhance intelligence sharing, joint patrols, and coordinated actions to address cross-border crime effectively.
