Bolivian man jailed pending investigation into teen's death at party

A 24-year-old man faces 180 days of preventive detention in Bolivia for his alleged role in the death of a 16-year-old during a party. The suspect, identified as Luis Manuel F.G., is accused of fatally injuring Thiago M.M. during a brawl at a gathering in Baures, Beni.

The prosecution stated that evidence presented in court linked the suspect to the death. "The Public Ministry, with all the elements from the investigation file, demonstrated that the accused citizen is allegedly the perpetrator of the crime," said Beni departmental prosecutor Alexander Mendoza. The court approved the pre-trial detention, citing risks of the suspect fleeing.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on August 8, near the Diomedes Carageorge Stadium in Baures. Authorities believe the fight began between Thiago and Luis Manuel, during which the older youth allegedly struck the teenager multiple times in the head and neck. Thiago was taken to the municipal hospital but arrived without vital signs.

The victim's brother filed a complaint, initiating the investigation. Evidence collected includes a verbal complaint report, psychological reports from minor witnesses, crime scene documentation, and a preliminary autopsy. The forensic doctor's initial diagnosis indicated closed head trauma and aspiration. The full autopsy report is pending. Investigators are working to reconstruct the exact sequence of events and determine full criminal responsibility.
