Bolivian Police Chief summoned over corruption allegations

Mirko Sokol, the General Commander of the Bolivian Police, has been summoned to appear before the anti-corruption prosecutor's office in La Paz to provide testimony.

The summons is part of an investigation stemming from a complaint filed by Vice President Edman Lara on July 28. The complaint was reportedly triggered by the leak of an audio recording attributed to Sokol, which allegedly discusses the collection of money to influence the appointment of the next police chief.

Vice President Lara has called for a thorough investigation into the case to determine if irregularities occurred in promotions within the Bolivian Police. Sokol is facing accusations related to seven alleged crimes: extortion, abuse of influence, passive bribery, omission of reporting, concealment, public apology for a crime, and illicit enrichment.

Sokol is scheduled to give his statement on Friday, August 28, at 12:00 PM. The investigation aims to clarify the allegations and ascertain any potential misconduct within the police leadership.
