Bolivian teen Lucas Careaga shines in US karting series with sixth place

Bolivian national karting champion Lucas Careaga, 14, achieved a remarkable sixth-place finish among 40 competitors in the KA Junior category at the demanding United States Pro Kart Series (USPKS). The event, held at the Country Club Motorsports track in Cincinnati, United States, featured top drivers from North America.

Careaga's journey through the competition was fraught with challenges. On Saturday, his kart experienced engine problems during qualifying, placing him 22nd. His team, Orsolon Racing, worked diligently to repair the vehicle for the main race on Sunday. The situation worsened during the warm-up session before the final race when Careaga was involved in a significant collision with a rival driver.

We finished Round 3 of the USPKS - United States Pro Kart Series with P6 of 40 drivers qualified in the KA Junior category. Starting from behind and moving forward, proving that we are at a good level to compete with drivers from different countries who dedicate themselves full-time to karting.

Despite these setbacks, mechanics managed to repair the kart within 20 minutes, allowing Careaga to start the 20-lap final from 16th position. He demonstrated exceptional driving skills, navigating through the field and recovering numerous positions. Although he came close to a podium finish, he ultimately secured sixth place against competitors with extensive experience on the track.

Careaga extended his gratitude to his parents for their unwavering support and to Orsolon Racing, specifically mentioning Fabio Orsolon, Esteban Tames, and Elkin Chiquiza for their crucial work on the chassis. His participation has reportedly informed several teams and drivers about the existence and level of karting in Bolivia.
