Bolojan: Population and hospitals unaffected by potential energy restrictions; government forms risk management center

Romania's interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced on Thursday that the government has adopted a plan to manage risks associated with the national energy system. The measures aim to ensure energy security while prioritizing essential services and the general population.

Bolojan stated that residential consumers and healthcare facilities, including hospitals and sanatoriums, will not be affected by any potential restrictions. "The homes, citizens will not be limited. However, the plan includes provisions for limiting energy consumption among certain industrial clients if the situation in the energy system necessitates it. "The plan considers limiting consumption for industrial clients," Bolojan explained. These industrial consumers will be notified 24 hours in advance by Transelectrica, the national electricity transmission system operator, before any such measures are implemented.

The government is also establishing an operational center to monitor the energy system continuously and coordinate efforts between producers, the transmission operator, and authorities. Discussions with neighboring countries are underway to secure energy transport and manage potential grid imbalances. The primary objective is to maintain the operation of all available energy production units at maximum capacity.
