Bolu Municipality Special Office Manager Arrested in Embezzlement Probe

An investigation into the Bolu Municipality has led to the arrest of Özgür Nihat Yıldız, the manager of the mayor's special office. Yıldız was detained on charges of embezzlement and money laundering. Out of twelve individuals initially apprehended, Yıldız is the only one who has been formally arrested, with the other eleven suspects released.

This development is part of a broader inquiry that has already seen the removal of Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan from his position. An indictment has been accepted by the Bolu 3rd High Criminal Court, which includes charges of "coercive extortion" against Özcan. The recent operation by the Provincial Gendarmerie Command targeted Yıldız and employees from companies affiliated with the municipality.

During the operation, gendarmerie teams searched the suspects' residences and municipal units, seizing digital materials. The number of suspects rose to 12 after two more individuals were called in for questioning on July 2. Following legal proceedings, Yıldız was arrested, while the remaining 11 suspects were set free.
