Bondi Beach Attack Suspect Faces 19 New Charges, Total Indictments Reach 78

Naveed Akram, the 24-year-old suspect in the deadly Bondi Beach attack that claimed 15 lives in December 2025, now faces an additional 19 charges. This brings his total indictment to 78 counts, including murder, attempted murder, and terrorism.

The new charges, confirmed by authorities after being filed in April, include ten counts of "shooting with intent to kill," six for using a firearm to resist arrest, and three for causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Akram has made brief court appearances but has not yet entered a plea, with his next hearing scheduled for August.

His lawyer, Leonie Gittani, stated that the additional charges are not surprising in a case of this magnitude. Prosecutors indicated the investigation is ongoing, with a substantial volume of evidence, including approximately 230,000 CCTV images and data from multiple devices, under review.

Evidence suggests the attack was meticulously planned for months by Akram and his father, who was killed by police at the scene. Investigators discovered video footage showing the two discussing motivations and practicing with firearms. The Bondi Beach attack remains Australia's most severe mass shooting in nearly three decades, prompting significant reforms in gun legislation and a national inquiry into antisemitism.
