Book on light in Cuban poetry presented in Havana

A valuable volume exploring the significance of light in Cuban poetry, "El rango de la luz en la poesía cubana," by the late Ivette Fuentes, was recently presented at the Institute of Literature and Linguistics in Havana. The book, published by Ediciones Unión, earned the 2018 Uneac de Ensayo «Enrique José Varona» Prize.

Poet and researcher Virgilio López Lemus lauded the work, noting that Fuentes, a leading specialist on the Orígenes group, extends her analysis beyond Cuban literature, drawing comparisons with other literary traditions. He described the book as a delightful read, characterized by prose that carries "the density of knowledge" and invites deeper exploration.

The book itself delves into the "emanations of light in poetry and its incidence in Cuban lyricism." According to López Lemus, the text's exploration of "insular light" transcends boundaries, continuing in 21st-century voices that reshape their universes. The author's vision of the hidden, observed through "the secret of attentive looking," promises to reveal new insights.

The presentation also served as a tribute to Fuentes' life and career. A Doctor of Philological Sciences, editor, literary and dance aesthetics specialist, and researcher, she was remembered for her dedication to her work and her constructive spirit. Colleagues highlighted her skill in project design, her constructive feedback, and her role as a supportive teacher and honest scientist. López Lemus concluded by stating she had a "useful life, which is one of the greatest achievements of a human being."
